AccessABILITY Software Announces release of 508 Wizard™

Product Helps Governmental Agencies, System Integrators and Software Companies Accelerate Section 508 Compliance for Desktop and Client/server Software.

CARLSBAD, CA January 15, 2003 AccessABILITY Software Inc., today announced the launch of its patent pending product suite known as the 508 Wizard™.  The suite features development tools that scan the source code of legacy and newly built desktop and client/server software applications to identify, remediate and validate Section 508 accessibility errors.

The patent pending 508 Wizard™ development tool was introduced to facilitate an easy and cost effective way for government organizations, systems integrators and private software companies to comply with the requirements of Section 508 as mandated by the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d). According to amendments passed in 1998, Section 508 requires that all Federal agencies and organizations selling software products to the Federal Government make electronic and information technology accessible to employees and individuals with disabilities who utilize government information.

"The 508 Wizard™ and its built-in accessibility help system will enable all software developers to build Section 508 Compliant code from the beginning of the development process rather than burdening QA staff at the end of the testing process," said Dan Bailey, President of AccessABILITY Software.

Our mission, through development of our easy to use tool, is to transform the industry by building compliance into the development process rather than adding it on as an afterthought."

Other features of the 508 Wizard™ include:

doodad pic      Scans for all 1194.21 A-L Section 508 violations;

doodad pic       Identifies the precise location of the accessibility error and allows for immediate remediation;

doodad pic       Provides detailed reports for three distinct audiences: Management, QA Staff and developers;

doodad pic       Allows for the exporting of compliance reports in XML and HTML;

One of the major obstacles to the adoption of Section 508 compliance is the expense associated with the laborious process of manually analyzing the large amounts of legacy and newly built source code for violations.

"By automating the detection, remediation and validation of Section 508 accessibility errors, the 508 Wizard™ removes the manual burdens and reduces the amount of time and effort it takes to verify that code being used by the Federal Government is compliant" added, Mr. Bailey.
