AccessABILITY Software Announces the Availability of the 508 Wizard™ for Microsoft™ Visual C++

New Product Makes it Easier to Develop 508 Compliant Code using Microsoft Visual C++

Encinitas, CA - December 16, 2002 - AccessABILITY Software announced today that the 508 Wizard product suite has been expanded to include Visual C++. The 508 Wizard is a development tool that scans the source code of legacy and newly built desktop and client/server Visual C++ software applications to identify, remediate and validate Section 508 accessibility errors in accordance with the Section 508, an amendment to the Rehabilitation Act. It’s general public availability is targeted for November, 2003.

The tool will assist Microsoft Visual C++ software developers in scanning source code to automate the detection, remediation and validation of Section 508 accessibility errors, thereby removing the manual burdens and reducing the amount of time and effort it takes to verify that source code being built is Section 508 compliant.

Most importantly, the 508 Wizard’s built in Section 508 help system will assist Microsoft Visual C++ developers in understanding Section 508 requirements and through repeated usage of the tool, help the developers understanding of how to build accessible Visual C++ source code.
“Companies that are committed to accessibility, should not only ensure that it’s website is accessible, but that all the software it produces is accessible. In order for our software to be accessible, developers within these organizations need the proper tools to assist them. The 508 Wizard for Visual C++ is one step in that direction, “said Dan Bailey, President of AccessABILITY Software.

The patent pending 508 Wizard™ development tool was introduced to facilitate an easy and cost effective way for government organizations, systems integrators and private software companies to comply with the requirements of Section 508 as mandated by the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d). According to amendments passed in 1998, Section 508 requires that all Federal agencies and organizations selling software products to the Federal Government make electronic and information technology accessible to employees and individuals with disabilities who utilize government information.

Section 508, an amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, requires electronic and information technology that is used, developed, and procured by the Federal government to be accessible to people with disabilities.
